In the posts for February and March, we would like to introduce you to each of the MirrorLabs partners. MirrorLabs currently consists of seven research institutions distributed over Europe which is shown in the figure below. Today's post will introduce LMS which is located in Greece.
Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems & Automation (LMS)
The Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems & Automation (LMS) is oriented on research and development in cutting edge scientific and technological fields. LMS is involved in a number of research projects funded by the CEU and European industrial partners. Particular emphasis is given to the co-operation with the European industry as well as with a number of "hi-tech" firms. LMS is active on research of advanced tools for the design and control of highly flexible production systems and on engineering research of industrial automation and robotics applications, advancing the state of the art in cutting edge manufacturing technologies.
LMS facilities
The Machine Shop is a place that provides students and researchers the ability to get involved with manufacturing processes, as well as study and develop industrial Robotics applications. It contains a wide range of robots such as industrial robots, collaborative robots, and mobile platforms.
LMS VR room is the part of the lab dedicated to the development of Virtual and Augmented Reality applications for manufacturing with focus on product design, process simulation, and validation.
Integration in Teaching
LMS as a laboratory of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics (University of Patras) is involved with the Manufacturing Processes & Laboratory 1 and 2 courses. MirrorLabs platform can enhance these courses by demonstrating to students the practices of Human-Robot collaboration. Also, it could be used as a baseline for relevant future thesis of Bachelor or Master students.
